The Animal Facility complies with the applicable provisions on the protection of animals used for scientific or educational purposes and is registered with the District Veterinary Inspectorate in Warsaw under the number: 146571002

and with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the numbers:

The Animal Facility occupies the area of ​​the Institute adapted to breed and maintain SPF animals (air conditioning, pass-through autoclaves, automatic dishwashers, a barrier system in the entrances for staff) divided into two areas: breeding and experimental, both for genetically modified animals and for wild-type strains.

The main objective of the facility is to provide the highest level of maintenance standards and research opportunities in the field of laboratory animal science. The most common animal models are mice (Mus musculus) including 60 transgenic lines, rats (Rattus norvegicus) with at 8 transgenic lines and grey short-tailed opossum (Monodelphis domestica).

The Animal Facility provides laboratory animals for research conducted in the laboratories at Nencki Institute and in cooperation with other Scientific Institutions and companies conducting preclinical research.
 

All experiments are carried out with the consent of  the First Warsaw Local Ethics Committee for Animal Experimentation.

Veterinarian

The Veterinarian cares about maintenance of the welfare and the health of laboratory animals, provides monitoring the animal health in terms of virology, bacteriology and parasitology in accordance with FELASA recommendations, and manages programs for combating infectious diseases and prevention programs, as well as cooperates with scientists in terms of assistance in performing experiments and providing practical guidance on veterinary skills required in everyday scientific work.
